The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, made striking statements just hours before the implementation of the prisoner exchange agreement, which includes a ceasefire in Gaza.
Trump, who said, "The U.S. must be respected again," threatened Hamas by stating, "If Hamas does not show us respect, they will experience hell."
"I TOLD NETANYAHU TO DO WHAT HE NEEDS TO DO"
Providing information about his discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said, "I will meet with Netanyahu soon. The war must end, but I told Netanyahu, 'Do what you need to do.'
Trump also stated, "It would be good if the ceasefire agreement is not violated."
ISRAEL IS IN TURMOIL
Meanwhile, after the Israeli government's approval of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, Israeli politics became chaotic. Opposition leader Yair Lapid accused Prime Minister Netanyahu, claiming that he accepted the ceasefire due to the fear of arrest and the elected President of the U.S., Trump. Additionally, the resigning National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also resigned after the acceptance of the agreement, blaming Netanyahu.
CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT IN GAZA
Qatar, one of the mediator countries, announced on January 15 that an agreement had been reached between Israel and Hamas regarding a ceasefire and prisoner exchange in Gaza.
The ceasefire agreement, which will come into effect on Sunday, January 19, will consist of three phases, with 33 Israeli prisoners being released during the first 42 days.
The agreement includes comprehensive humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip, as well as allowing displaced Palestinians to return to their regions. The details of the second and third phases will be announced upon the completion of the first phase.
