U.S. President Donald Trump announced that if he does not quickly remove the 50% tariff on whiskeys produced in his country, he will impose a 200% tariff on all alcoholic products imported from the EU.
US President Donald Trump made a statement on his social media account regarding the 50% customs duty tariff imposed by the European Union (EU) on whiskies imported from the US.
"THE EU WAS ESTABLISHED TO BENEFIT FROM THE US"
Trump described the EU as "the world's most hostile and exploitative taxation authority" and reiterated the view that the EU was "established to benefit from the US."
"IF THIS TARIFF IS NOT IMMEDIATELY LIFTED, THE US WILL IMPOSE A 200% TARIFF"
Recalling that the EU decided to impose a 50% customs duty on US-produced whiskies, Trump stated, "If this tariff is not lifted immediately, the US will impose a 200% tariff on all wines, champagnes, and alcoholic products coming from France and other EU countries within a short period. This will be great for wine and champagne businesses in the US."
