U.S. Vice President JD Vance visited Greenland, which President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated should be under U.S. control. In a statement made during his visit, Vance said, "We have no other choice. We need to take a significant position in Greenland to keep the people living here and our own country safe." Meanwhile, Vance's visit was met with protests on the island.

U.S. Vice President James David Vance and his wife Usha Vance arrived in Greenland with a delegation. The delegation, welcomed by Colonel Susan Meyers and Sergeant Holly Vaught, passed the U.S. Pituffik Space Base from the airport. Speaking at the Space Base, J.D. Vance said, "Of course, we will receive a briefing every day about what you are doing. Then, as you have heard, we will talk about some of our interests in Greenland as the Trump administration. The Trump administration, the president, is really concerned about Arctic security. As you all know, this is a big issue and it will grow even more in the coming decades."
"GREENLANDERS WILL DETERMINE THEIR INDEPENDENCE FROM DENMARK"
Speaking to reporters at the U.S. base, Vance said, "We do not think military force will ever be necessary. Because we believe the people of Greenland are rational and good people. We think we can make a deal in the style of Donald Trump to ensure the security of this region while also ensuring the security of the U.S." In his speech, Vice President Vance referred to Trump's views on Greenland, stating, "What the president is saying is that we need to have more positions in Greenland. Again, we need this for the safety of the American people. And what we think is that Greenlanders will determine their independence from Denmark, and then we will have discussions with the people of Greenland."
"YOU HAVE NOT INVESTED ENOUGH IN THE PEOPLE OF GREENLAND"
Stating that Denmark has failed to keep Greenland safe, Vance said, "Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job for the people of Greenland. You have not invested enough in the people of Greenland, and you have not invested enough in the security infrastructure of this enormous, beautiful land. This has to change. Denmark's security umbrella actually means that they are passing all responsibility to brave Americans and hoping that we will pay the bill. We are simply telling the people of Greenland: When the president says, 'We must own Greenland,' he means 'This island is not safe.'
"WE NEED TO TAKE A SIGNIFICANT POSITION IN GREENLAND"
Speaking about alternative routes, Vance said, "What is the alternative? Are we going to leave the North Atlantic and the Arctic region to China, Russia, and other regimes that do not consider the interests of the American people? We have no other option. We need to take a significant position in Greenland to keep the people living here and our own country safe."
VANCE'S COMMENT ON SIGNAL
After the Signal chat scandal, Vance stated that they support national security teams and noted that national security advisor Mike Waltz has taken responsibility. Vance said, "We all agree that a journalist should not be invited to a chat group, and members of the administration, including my dear friend Mike, have taken responsibility for this. President Trump said on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and I am saying here as vice president, we stand behind our entire national security team."
VISIT MET WITH PROTESTS: YANKEE GO HOME
Meanwhile, during the visit, hundreds of people held a protest against the U.S. in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland. They had hats saying "Send America back" and banners reading "Yankee go home." A cardboard sign saying "Our land, our future" stood out among the Greenland flags placed on the snow. These protests have been recorded as one of the largest demonstrations seen in Greenland so far.
