Trump's first agenda item at the ASEAN Summit will be the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand. The U.S. President is also expected to visit Japan and South Korea in addition to Malaysia.
ASEAN SUMMIT HAS BEGUN
The 47th official opening ceremony of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit was held in the capital Kuala Lumpur, hosted by Malaysia. According to the Malay Mail newspaper, Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN 2025 Chair Anwar Ibrahim gave a speech at the opening ceremony.
Pointing out that global uncertainties continue to rise, Ibrahim noted that 2025 will bring new challenges for ASEAN, stating, "These challenges test not only our economies but also our trust in cooperation and our belief that understanding and dialogue can still prevail in a divided world."
MORE THAN 30 LEADERS WILL ATTEND THE SUMMIT
This year's 47th summit will be attended by more than 30 leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Under the theme of "Inclusivity and Sustainability," the summit will be held for three days in Kuala Lumpur under Malaysia's presidency, where leaders will address regional security, economic resilience, and inclusive growth.
The island nation of East Timor in Southeast Asia has also joined the alliance as the 11th member.
