US President Donald Trump announced that his country is ready to help after consecutive earthquakes of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5 struck Venezuela. Trump stated that initial reports are alarming and said, 'There is a serious number of casualties.' The US Geological Survey also predicted that the earthquake caused massive destruction and that the death toll could range from 10,000 to 100,000.
US President Donald Trump made a statement on his Truth Social account following the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela.
Describing the earthquakes as "massive in scale," Trump noted that initial reports were concerning, saying, "There are serious casualties."
"WE ARE READY TO HELP"
Emphasizing that the US is prepared to support Venezuela, Trump announced that he has instructed all government agencies to be ready.
In his post, Trump stated, "The US is ready, willing, and able to help. I have instructed all agencies of our government to be prepared to act swiftly. We will stand by our new and wonderful friends. The first reports are not good."
EARTHQUAKES CAUSED WIDESPREAD DESTRUCTION
The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela 39 seconds apart caused severe damage in many regions, especially the capital Caracas.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) estimated in its assessment after the earthquake that the death toll could range between 10,000 and 100,000. The agency stated, "High casualties and extensive damage are likely, and the disaster is significant in scope."
