In Bursa, Tuğçe Yıldız (21), who was shot in the chest, abdomen, and wrist by her husband Ahmet Yıldız (30) during their divorce process, shared her experiences with DHA reporter as she was discharged from the hospital after two months of treatment. Yıldız, a mother of one, claimed that she was forced to marry her cousin Ahmet Yıldız due to his abuse when she was 14 years old, saying, "I was 14 at that time. I had to get married. He received 18 years and 6 months in prison but did not serve time. I really wanted him to go to prison. I prayed a lot. I was almost paying for this prayer with my life."
The incident occurred on January 11 at around 1:30 PM in an apartment on the upper floor of a two-story building in the Hacivat neighborhood of Yıldırım district. A dispute broke out between Ahmet Yıldız and Tuğçe Yıldız, who were in the process of divorce. During the argument, Ahmet Yıldız fired at his wife with the gun he had. Tuğçe Yıldız collapsed to the ground after being hit by bullets in her chest and abdomen, while the suspect fled. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the address following a report. Tuğçe Yıldız was treated at Bursa High Specialization Training and Research Hospital after the first intervention.
Ahmet Yıldız, who went to the police station and surrendered after the incident, reportedly stated in his testimony that he shot his wife because she had cheated on him many times. It was also noted that Yıldız had made a post on his social media account before the incident, saying, "I apologize to anyone I have upset knowingly or unknowingly. I apologize to everyone. The snake has coiled, and it has come to its last turn." Ahmet Yıldız was arrested by the court he was brought to at the courthouse.
'HE THREATENED ME THE NIGHT BEFORE'
Tuğçe Yıldız, who was shot in the chest, abdomen, and wrist and was severely injured, shared her experiences with DHA reporter after being discharged from Bursa High Specialization Training and Research Hospital, where she underwent treatment for 2 months and 5 days. She stated that she left her husband a year ago and returned to her father's house, but a month before the incident, she returned home and reconciled with her husband for the sake of her 6-year-old daughter, N.Y. Yıldız said she could not remember the moment of the incident due to the blow to her head and described the events leading up to it with the following words:
"Last year, I reached my breaking point and went to my father's house. But due to our child, there was a reconciliation process. I had come back home a month before the incident after reconciling. On January 11, I experienced an unfortunate event. He had already threatened me. Since my sister had a birthday, I was going to go to my hometown after the birthday. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to go. I don't remember the moment of the incident. I don't remember that moment well because I received a blow to my head before the incident. The argument started over money. He was working, but he couldn't receive his salary because he had debts to his workplace. He had no money. He asked me for money because my salary had just been deposited. I didn't give it for the rent of the house. After the argument, he left the house around 5:00 AM. My sister came in the morning. She said she had a bad dream. We were supposed to celebrate my daughter's birthday at our house, but at my sister's insistence, we decided to do it at their house. We took our belongings and went to my sister's. I don't remember anything after that."
'I STAYED IN INTENSIVE CARE FOR 28 DAYS, I LOST 20 KILOS'
Yıldız, stating that the treatment process in the hospital was difficult for both her and her daughter, said, "I underwent a treatment process of 2 months and 5 days in the hospital. It was a very difficult period. It was especially hard for my daughter. When my daughter came to me while I was in intensive care, it was very painful not to hear and see her voice. That's why I struggled a lot. I prayed to get out of intensive care as soon as possible to see my daughter. On the 28th day of my treatment, I moved from intensive care to a room. I entered the hospital weighing 60 kilos and lost weight down to 40 kilos in intensive care. My legs wouldn't hold me; I couldn't walk. Both prayers and my daughter kept me alive in intensive care," she said.
SHE GAVE BIRTH PREMATURELY DUE TO VIOLENCE
Yıldız also mentioned that she had previously experienced violence from her husband and that her daughter was born 5 months premature because she was beaten while pregnant, saying, "My daughter was born at 5 months. We had an argument and fought. As a result of the fight, I ended up in the hospital, and my daughter was born prematurely at 5 months. I said if my daughter could hold on to life after being born at 5 months, then I could hold on to life too. My daughter really kept me alive. I had to fight for her."
'I HAD TO MARRY BECAUSE OF HIS ABUSE'
Tuğçe Yıldız stated that she was forced to marry Ahmet Yıldız, who abused her when she was 14 years old, saying:
"The reason I married him was that he abused me. I became pregnant as a result of this abuse. I was 14 years old at that time. I had to get married because there were threats. A 14-year-old child is certainly afraid of threats. Because the threats were against my family. They would scare me every time, saying, 'Our mothers are sisters. If our family gets shot, your father will go to prison. If your father goes to prison, your siblings are very young; who will take care of them?' I lost my education because of this incident. I would have loved to study; I would have loved to be a child development specialist. But it didn't happen. At a very young age, I became my daughter's teacher. We grew up together."
'THE SLANDER AGAINST ME AFFECTS MY DAUGHTER TOO'
Tuğçe Yıldız also stated that the claims about her cheating were not true, saying, "The statements at the police station that I cheated on him are lies. We got married because he abused me when I was 14 years old. His mother kidnapped me. He cheated on me many times. My landlord is also a witness. He has taken women out and fed them money, and he is someone who has never taken me to the hospital even once, yet he is making such a slander against me. I have a small child. I absolutely do not want this to happen. Because every slander thrown at me reflects on my daughter as well. It will come up in her entire future. I do not accept this allegation," she said.
'I WAS PAYING FOR MY PRAYERS WITH MY LIFE'
Yıldız stated that Ahmet Yıldız received 18.5 years in prison for the abuse but did not stay in prison due to the appeal process, saying, "I really wanted him to go to prison. If he had been sent to prison at that time, this incident would not have happened. I would have expected the judiciary to take him in. I prayed a lot. My prayers were answered in return for my being shot. I was almost paying for this prayer with my life. Thank God I am standing, and I am with my daughter," she expressed.
