Turkish producers export flowers worth around $8M, say head of business association.

Turkish producers have exported 60 million flowers worth approximately $8 million ahead of International Women's Day on March 8.

Ismail Yilmaz, the head of the Ornamental Plants and Products Exporters' Association, told Anadolu Agency that deliveries were made with trucks and that extra demands are met with airplanes.

"Flowers exporter countries such as Kenya, Colombia, and Ecuador are not competitive due to high transportation cost. We have achieved an export increase of nearly 20% compared to last year."

He said the sector's $125 million export target for this year will be realized easily.

Noting that Britain will celebrate Mothering Sunday on March 14, Yilmaz said shipments will continue for the next 10 days.
