Turkey has crossed another critical threshold in defense exports. With the agreement signed between ASFAT, affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, and Romania for the sale of TCG Akhisar, a warship has been sold for the first time to a NATO and European Union member country. The entry of TCG Akhisar into the Romanian inventory will provide strategic contributions to both regional maritime security and Romania's modernization process.
An agreement was signed between the Military Factory and Shipyard Management Joint Stock Company (ASFAT) affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense and Romania for the sale of TCG Akhisar.
In a statement from ASFAT, it was noted that the export of TCG Akhisar, which was completed in 2024 at the Istanbul Shipyard Command, to the Romanian Naval Forces Command was successfully carried out.
TCG Akhisar WARSHIP SOLD TO A NATO AND EU MEMBER COUNTRY FOR THE FIRST TIME The statement indicated that the agreement represents an important milestone in Turkey's defense exports and expressed that military cooperation between the two countries has reached a new level.
The statement mentioned that Turkey has sold a warship to a NATO and European Union (EU) member country for the first time, and this situation is considered a concrete indicator of not only ASFAT's but also the Turkish defense industry's reliability, quality, and technological competence achieved in the international arena.
TCG Akhisar WILL CONTRIBUTE TO REGIONAL MARITIME SECURITY The statement noted that the inclusion of Akhisar as a corvette in the Romanian inventory will not only contribute to regional maritime security but also provide strong support for the modernization goals of the Romanian Naval Forces.
