At Bangkok Airport, 12 kg of cocaine hidden in coffee and chocolate packages were seized from the suitcase of a Turkish citizen arriving from Brazil. The investigation into the detained suspect continues.

A Turkish citizen arriving from Brazil was detained at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, after approximately 12 kilograms of drugs were seized from their suitcase.

SEARCH CONDUCTED IN TURKISH CITIZEN'S SUITCASE

In a statement by the Thai Customs Department, it was stated that a search was conducted on the suitcase of a Turkish citizen arriving from Sao Paulo, Brazil, during inspections at Suvarnabhumi Airport on June 25. The search revealed approximately 12 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside coffee and chocolate packages. It was stated that the market value of the seized drugs is approximately 36 million baht (about 50 million Turkish Lira). The detained Turkish citizen and the seized drugs were handed over to the Thai Narcotics Suppression Bureau after processing. Officials reported that the investigation is ongoing to uncover an international drug trafficking network that may be linked to the incident.

In an announcement made by the Thai Customs Department in recent months, it was stated that inspections at airports would be increased due to rising smuggling and narcotics cases.

According to Customs Department data, 214 operations were conducted against drugs and psychotropic substances between October 1, 2025, and June 25, 2026. During these operations, 53 suspects were apprehended, and the total value of the seized drugs was reported to exceed 692 million baht. It was noted that methamphetamine was the most seized drug during the same period.
