Turkish Parliament Speaker Marks Russia Day

Turkish Russian relations will develop further on basis of mutual respect, common interests, says Turkish parliament speaker.

Turkey's parliament speaker on Saturday congratulated Russian officials on June 12, Russia Day, the national holiday commemorating the proclamation of Russia's sovereignty.

Mustafa Sentop sent letters to Russian Federation Council Chair Valentina Matviyenko and Vyacheslav Volodin, chairman of the State Duma – the lower house of the Russian parliament – for the occasion.

"In 2020, we marked the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Government of the Turkish Grand National Assembly [parliament] and Soviet Russia," Sentop wrote.

"This year is the 100th anniversary of the Moscow Treaty, which is a symbol of the solidarity between our countries at the beginning of the last century," he added.

"I believe that our relations, based on a deep-rooted history, will further develop on the basis of mutual respect and common interest, through joint activities and especially with the contributions of parliamentary diplomacy," he added. -
