The marathon for the minimum wage, which concerns millions closely, officially starts today. A serious crisis may occur during the meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will begin today at 2:00 PM. If TÜRK-İŞ, which has decided not to participate in the discussions without changes to the commission's structure and the methods of determining the minimum wage, does not attend today's meeting, it will mark a first in the history of the negotiations.
As part of the work to determine the new minimum wage, which directly concerns approximately 7 million employees and indirectly affects the general public, the commission will hold its first meeting today at 14:00.
TÜRK-İŞ HAD DECIDED NOT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORKS
Türk-İş had decided not to participate in the works without a change in the commission structure and the methods of determining the minimum wage. Although some formulas were proposed during this process, no concrete result was achieved. In response to the Ministry's formula to reduce the public representative in the Commission to 1 member, no administrative regulation has yet been initiated. In this environment, the Commission was called to a meeting by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security on December 12.
ERGÜN ATALAY: I AM IN THE SAME PLACE
Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay attended the award ceremony of the Joint Futures program, where TİSK rewards social responsibility projects, and the TİSK General Assembly gala program. Ergün Atalay, who joined the program later, had a brief conversation with journalists. In response to the question of whether they would participate in the commission, Atalay said, "I am in the same place. There has not been a regulation yet. It seems difficult from this point on."
A SERIOUS CRISIS MAY OCCUR AT THE MEETING
Atalay's message of "I am in the same place" was interpreted as he may not attend the first meeting of the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will take place today. If Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay does not attend this meeting, it will be a first in the history of the table.
ERDOĞAN: I EXPECT THEM TO PUT THEIR HANDS UNDER THE STONE
On the other hand, speaking to the employer group at TİSK's 29th Ordinary General Assembly in Ankara, President Erdoğan also made a call regarding the determination of the minimum wage, saying, "Put your hands under the stone." Erdoğan stated, "Every positive step you take for our worker brothers will return as productivity, profit, and abundance. I always say; there is no pocket in the shroud." He continued: "It is essential for us that the relationship between workers and employers is fair. When this relationship is not established on a healthy ground, the path to exploitation and injustice will be opened before us. The relationships between workers and employers are based on rights and justice. A system where no one is victimized is our priority."
ECONOMIST SEYFETTİN ERDOĞAN SPOKE TO HABERLER.COM
Economist Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Erdoğan, who made evaluations to Haberler.com, stated, "I do not expect a rate that will exceed 30 percent. A rate that exceeds this band does not align with the 2026 targets. In the implementation of the minimum wage, inflation rates for the upcoming period are taken into account more."
IT NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED BY THE END OF THE MONTH
According to the law, the minimum wage that will be valid in 2026 must be determined and announced by the end of the month. For the meeting to be valid, the participation of 10 commission members is sufficient.
