Members of the global terrorist organization Al-Qaeda's Turkish structure, brothers L.B. and S.B., who have been wanted since 2018, were captured in the basement of a five-story building where they were staying in Avcılar. The organization members were arrested by the court they were brought before and sent to prison.
Information that two suspects, aged 45 and 51, who are wanted for being members of the global terrorist organization Al-Qaeda's structure in Turkey, are in Istanbul has prompted the Istanbul Police Department's Counter-Terrorism teams to take action. The teams, which reached the clue that the organization members were in the basement of a five-story building in Avcılar, initiated the operation.
THEY WERE DETAINED IN A RAID
A police raid was conducted at the mentioned address on Tuesday, January 21. In the operation, two brothers named L.B. and S.B., who are members of Al-Qaeda, were captured and taken into custody. It was understood that the suspects were registered in Batman.
THEY WERE TAKEN FOR CROSS-EXAMINATION
All communication records of the suspects, who are believed to have received orders from Al-Qaeda, and the people they are connected to have been scrutinized. The organization members, who were cross-examined at the police station, will reveal whether they have been involved in any actions to date and whether they have participated in the organization's rural training camps through the analysis of digital data.
THEY HAVE BEEN ON THE RUN FOR 7 YEARS
It has been learned that L.B., one of the suspects who was sentenced in absentia due to being on the run in a criminal case seen in 2018, has a total of 9.5 years, including 7 years and 6 months for the crime of "Being a Member of an Armed Terrorist Organization," while S.B. has a finalized conviction of a total of 7 years and 6 months for "Membership in an Armed Terrorist Organization."
THEY WERE ARRESTED
After their interrogations at the police station, L.B. and S.B. were brought before a judge on Wednesday, where they were arrested and sent to Metris Prison.
