CLOSURE OF STANDS AND PLAYING WITHOUT FANS IS ON THE HORIZON
Rangers stated that if a similar incident occurs within 2 years at the Copland Stand, they will face a stand closure penalty. It was noted that if the incidents continue, Rangers could face a penalty of playing without fans, which would harm the team's European journey.
LIFETIME BAN FOR RACIST FANS
The Scottish team also announced that they are in the process of identifying the fans who displayed racist banners during the Fenerbahçe match and that those identified will receive a lifetime ban.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The first accusation was related to a banner displayed by the Union Bears, one of Rangers' fan groups, in the Copland Front stand. UEFA stated that the banner contained "racist and/or discriminatory" expressions. The banner included the phrases, "Keep woke foreign ideologies out. Defend Europe."
In the round of 16 of the UEFA Europa League, Fenerbahçe won the second leg match played at Ibrox against Rangers with a score of 2-0. The match went to extra time due to the Scottish team's 3-1 victory in the first match, and the scoreboard did not change during the extra minutes. Subsequently, Rangers eliminated Fenerbahçe in the penalty shootout.
