The Victory Party held a rally in İzmir Bornova Republic Square titled "No amnesty for the Mehmetçik killers." Before the rally, the letter sent by the General President of the Victory Party, Ümit Özdağ, who is detained in Silivri Prison, was read by the Deputy General President Özcan Pehlivanoğlu.
"MY REASON FOR ARREST IS OUR RESISTANCE TO TURKEY'S RETURN TO FEDERATION"
In his letter, Özdağ stated, "I was detained for insulting the president, disregarding even the most fundamental rights such as the publicity of trials, which were violated by the constitution and laws." He continued, "I was arrested by an unauthorized court with a hastily prepared document for my social media posts made between 2020-2022 for allegedly inciting the public to hatred and hostility. The real reason for my arrest is neither insulting Erdoğan nor inciting the public to hatred and enmity. My reason for arrest is the Victory Party's resistance to Erdoğan, Bahçeli, and Öcalan's efforts to transform Turkey into a Turkish, Kurdish, and Arab federation within the framework of the new paradigm."
"I INVITE YOU TO STAND UP FOR THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY"
Özdağ also stated, "Dear people of İzmir, I am a scholar who has closely examined the fight against terrorism by traveling for years in cities, districts, mountains, and police stations in the Southeast, crossing borders. I have seen and experienced how the Turkish army, police, and gendarmerie heroically fought against the terrorist organization PKK and how they resisted cowardly ambushes. I have personally witnessed how the families of our martyrs, the Mehmetçiks, our police, and our citizens honorably endure the heavy pain they experience. I have witnessed the honorable stance of our dear veterans who have lost their eyes, arms, legs, and sometimes all for their homeland.
My presence today in Silivri Closed Penal Institution against the federation bargaining of Erdoğan, Bahçeli, and terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan is a tribute to the existence of our martyrs, the Mehmetçiks, our police, our citizens, their sacred memories, and our dear veterans who fell in the fight against the PKK terrorist organization. Dear people of İzmir, dear patriots, I invite you to stand up for our constitution, our homeland, and the Republic of Turkey, which is the sacred legacy of Atatürk, and I embrace you all with love, respect, and affection."
