A 4.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. The earthquake was also felt in surrounding provinces, including İzmir, Istanbul, and Bursa. Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan emphasized the need to pay attention to the soil structure of Sındırgı, stating that the district should urgently be relocated from the old swamp area to a more solid ground where TOKİ housing is located.

Aftershocks continue in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. According to AFAD data, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the district at 15:35. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported to be Sındırgı, occurring at a depth of 11 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in surrounding provinces, especially in İzmir, Istanbul, and Bursa. Citizens panicked and took to the streets.
"THE EXPECTED LARGEST AFTERSHOCK"
Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ahmet Ercan stated in a social media post that the earthquake is the largest aftershock of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on October 27, 2025.
"STRUCTURAL DAMAGE INCREASED"
Ercan used the following expressions in his post:
"On November 3, 2025, at 15:35, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at a depth of 11-13 kilometers in Sındırgı Büyükdağdere. This is the expected largest aftershock of the 6.1 magnitude earthquake on October 27. It would be surprising to expect a larger tremor. However, the 5.1 magnitude earthquake has increased the structural damage in Sındırgı."
"SINDIRGI MUST BE EVACUATED URGENTLY"
Ercan drew attention to the ground structure of the district and made the following warnings:
"The area where Sındırgı is located is an old marsh and lake bed. Therefore, the shock waves are reflected in buildings with three to four times greater intensity. The damage rate has increased due to column cuts, liquefaction events, and resonance effects. The fault line is advancing southeast. If a larger earthquake occurs, Sındırgı could suffer serious damage. The district needs to be relocated from the old swamp area to a more solid ground where TOKİ housing is located."
