In a hotel room fire in the Seferihisar district of Izmir, a woman lost her life, and her husband was seriously injured. It is claimed that the fire originated from the air conditioning unit and that the smoke detectors in the room did not work.

A woman lost her life and her husband was seriously injured in a fire that broke out in the room of a couple who went to a hotel for the Valentine's Day holiday on February 14 in the Seferihisar district of İzmir.

HUSBAND DIED, POLICE OFFICER'S CONDITION REMAINS SERIOUS

Police officer Mehmet Ayten (50) and his wife Emine Ayten (46) checked into a boutique hotel on Akkum Street in Sığacık Neighborhood, where a fire broke out in their room during the night. Upon the report of the hotel staff, a large number of police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the area. Emine Ayten, one of the injured who received first aid from the medical teams, could not be saved despite all interventions at Seferihisar Necat Hepkon State Hospital. It was learned that Mehmet Ayten, who was transferred to İzmir City Hospital, is still in critical condition.

CLAIMS THAT THE SMOKE DETECTORS IN THE ROOM DID NOT WORK

On the other hand, it was claimed that the fire originated from the air conditioning and that the smoke detectors in the room did not work. It was reported that Mehmet Ayten, who wanted to escape outside in panic at the time of the incident, collapsed behind the door after being poisoned while heading towards the door. As part of the investigation into the incident, 2 hotel employees were taken to the police station to give their statements.
