Vegetable prices increased by 20% in October.

In October, vegetable prices increased the most for tomatoes and peppers by 20% due to weather conditions and greenhouse products coming from a single region. Market vendors stated that a decrease in prices is not expected during the winter season.

Vegetable prices became the most expensive product group last month. In that month, the prices of tomatoes and peppers increased the most. The market vendors in Yenibosna, Istanbul, stated that prices have risen due to the cold weather and the fact that greenhouse products are coming from a single region.

With the announcement of the inflation figures for October, the products that increased and decreased the most in price became clear. Accordingly, fresh vegetables (excluding potatoes) drew attention as the product group that became the most expensive last month.

In the vegetable and fruit market in Yenibosna, Istanbul, tomatoes and peppers are among the products with rising prices. Compared to the previous month, the prices of tomatoes and peppers increased by 20%.

THE FACT THAT GREENHOUSE PRODUCTS COME FROM A SINGLE REGION HAS INCREASED PRICES

The market vendors stated that the cold weather and the fact that greenhouse products are coming from a single region due to the winter season have increased prices. On the other hand, the market vendors, who mentioned that the demand for vegetables has risen, indicated that prices will not decrease during the winter period.

VEGETABLE PRICES IN THE MARKET

In the market; tomatoes are sold for 55-60 lira, peppers for 65-70 lira, white cabbage for 25 lira, red cabbage for 40 lira, and cucumbers for 45-50 lira. The price of lemons is around 15-20 lira. Curly lettuce is sold for 35 lira, and parsley and dill for 10 lira.

Nurullah Dağıstanlı, a market vendor, stated that since the winter season has started, all products are greenhouse products, saying, "Vegetables are currently coming from only one region. As a result, prices have risen a bit. Currently, products are only coming from the Mediterranean region, so demand cannot be met. Costs have also risen significantly. Packaging and labor costs have increased as well. Tomatoes are currently sold for 55-60 lira, peppers for 65-70 lira, white cabbage for 25 lira, red cabbage for 40 lira, and cucumbers for 45-50 lira. Only the price of lemons is a bit lower, sold for 15-20 lira. Curly lettuce is sold for 35 lira, and parsley and dill for 10 lira. Tomato and pepper prices have increased by 20% compared to last month. Prices may continue like this throughout the winter," he said.
