As the conflict between Israel and Iran escalates, China has called for restraint from both sides and condemned the attacks on Iran's sovereignty. The Beijing administration has stated that it is ready to play a constructive role in the region, emphasizing the importance of a diplomatic solution.
As the conflict between Israel and Iran enters its second day, the Middle East has turned into a veritable fire zone, while China maintains a clear and cautious stance regarding the clashes. The Beijing administration is adopting a position that condemns both the neutrality and violations of Iran's sovereignty.
EMPHASIS ON RESTRAINT AND DIPLOMACY
Officials from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs have called for all parties to exercise restraint in statements made following the developments. Emphasizing that the escalation of tensions in the region is not in anyone's interest, China urged all parties to avoid actions that would lead to further escalation and stated that regional peace and stability must be ensured.
China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, described Israel's airstrikes against Iran as actions that violate Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, and called on Israel to immediately cease its military operations.
Similarly, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian expressed deep concern over Israel's attacks on Iran. Lin stated that China opposes any violations of Iran's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity and called on all parties to refrain from escalating tensions.
RESPECT FOR IRAN'S SOVEREIGNTY
Particularly following Israel's attacks on Iranian territory, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission to the United Nations drew attention with the statement, "We oppose violations of the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran." This statement serves as an indirect condemnation of Israel's attacks.
DIPLOMATIC SOLUTION AND MEDIATION
China stated that it will continue its diplomatic efforts to prevent the escalation of events and is ready to play a "constructive role" in the region. This approach aligns with Beijing's vision of mediation, as demonstrated by its previous facilitation of diplomatic normalization between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
CLEAR STANCE AGAINST SANCTIONS
China has long opposed the United States' unilateral sanctions against Iran. Most recently, it voted "no" alongside Russia and Burkina Faso on a draft resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regarding Iran's violations of its nuclear obligations. The Beijing administration argued that this step harms diplomatic processes.
