In Kırıkkale, 25,190 lira was found on a 77-year-old woman who was begging in a park. After municipal police teams seized the money and imposed a fine of 1,764 lira, the woman, now left without money, asked the municipal police for transportation fare.
Teams from the Kırıkkale Municipality Police Department conducted an inspection of individuals begging across the city. A.E. (77), who was determined to be begging in Hüseyin Kahya Park, was taken to the Police Department by the teams. During the inspection there, bundles of money were found on the woman. The 25,190 liras, counted and recorded by the teams, were confiscated. An administrative fine of 1,764 liras was imposed on A.E. for begging. As she was released after the procedures, she asked the police officer for help, saying, "Then give me money for the car."
"WE ARE FORCED TO RELEASE THEM"
In a statement to an İHA reporter, Police Chief İbrahim Gencer said they encountered large amounts of money during inspections. Noting that they bring individuals who beg to the Police Department and record the money on them, Gencer said, "In our inspections against beggars, we came across large amounts of money. We detected 25,190 liras on a person who was begging. Our procedures and the authorities granted to us by law are clear. We take beggars from where they are and bring them to the Police Department. We detect and record the money on them and impose penalties. Then we are forced to release the individuals."
Calling on citizens not to give money to beggars, Gencer said, "As the Police Chief, we expect the following from our citizens: let us not give money to these people who exploit your emotional feelings. We expect support from our citizens on this issue."
"A PENALTY WAS IMPOSED"
Police Commissioner Orhan Çetinkaya also stated that teams went to the area upon a tip-off, saying, "When our teams arrived at the scene, the woman was begging. We brought the person to the Police Department. In the search conducted here, 25,190 liras in cash was found on her. We imposed a penalty on the person for begging under Article 33 of Law No. 5326 on Misdemeanors. After the necessary procedures, the person was released. The confiscated money is recorded and transferred to the public."
