The report detailing the investigation into the murder of Narin Güran, whose body was found 19 days after she went missing in Diyarbakır, has emerged, revealing findings from the examination of carpets in the home of her father, Arif Güran, conducted by the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory Directorate. Narin Güran's lifeless body was discovered on August 21, hidden in a sack covered with three stones weighing 30, 25, and 20 kilograms, in a stream bed on the 19th day of the search efforts. A case has been opened at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court against four of the twelve individuals arrested in connection with her murder. In the indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that Salim Güran, her uncle, who had DNA and hair samples belonging to Narin in his vehicle, along with her mother Yüksel Güran and brother Enes Güran, were taken into custody. It was also noted that neighbors Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to transporting the body to the stream bed, were found to have been in the same house at the time of the incident according to HTS and base station records. They are charged with 'intentional murder of a child in participation' and face aggravated life imprisonment. In the second hearing, which started on December 26 and ended on December 28, Salim Güran, Enes Güran, and Yüksel Güran were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, while Nevzat Bahtiyar received a 4-year and 6-month prison sentence. The court is expected to announce its reasoned decision at the end of the month. DETAILS OF THE CRIMINAL REPORT REVEALEDIn the investigation, all carpets in the home of father Arif Güran were previously subjected to blue light scanning (luminol testing). The hair samples and stains obtained from the carpets were numbered and sent to the Van Gendarmerie Criminal Laboratory Directorate along with samples cut from the carpets. After the examinations, the carpets were returned to the Güran family, and the details of the report that entered the court file were revealed. The following statements were included in the examinations conducted between September 19-23, 2024: 1. In the stain sample number 3 taken from the patterned cover (BN:8), and in the stain sample taken from the carpet piece (BN:25), it was determined that there was no blood. The samples were taken for further analysis as they could contain other biological samples. 2. In stain samples 1 and 2 taken from the runner (BN:1), in the stain sample taken from the runner piece (BN.2), and in the stain sample taken from the carpet piece (BN:4-1), it was determined that there was no semen in the swab sample (BN:15). The samples were taken for further analysis as they could contain other biological samples. 3. A DNA profile belonging to a male individual was obtained from the stain sample taken from two pieces of runner (BN:9) and from the stain sample taken from the carpet piece (BN:14). 4. The obtained DNA profile(s) (excluding mixed DNA profile(s)) were scanned among the DNA profiles of individuals kept in our laboratory until a decision is reached regarding the 'Undetermined Crime Scene DNA Profiles' and Article 80/2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure No. 5271, and the Regulation on Body Examination, Genetic Investigations, and Identification of Physical Identity, and no similar profile was found. 5. Other samples sent to us or identified in the laboratory, except for the sample(s) from which DNA profiles were obtained as mentioned in the report section, did not respond to DNA analysis studies, and no DNA profile could be obtained. 6. The DNA profile obtained; in the expert reports numbered VAN-BYL-2024-1321, VAN-BYL-2024-1338, VAN-BYL-2024-1347, VAN-BYL-2024-1348, VAN-BYL-2024-1362, VAN-BYL-2024-1363, was compared with all previously sent DNA profiles related to the incident of the child Narin Güran being found dead; DIFFERENT DNA IN THE PILLOWCASEa. It was determined that the DNA profile obtained from the stain samples 1-4 taken from the pillowcases (BN:3) mentioned in the expert report numbered VAN-BYL-2024-1321, sent by the Bağlar District Gendarmerie Command on August 24, 2024, regarding the 'Missing Child' incident that occurred on August 21, 2024, is compatible with the DNA profile obtained from the other DNA profile, indicating that it is different. b. It was determined that the DNA profiles mentioned in the expert reports numbered VAN-BYL-2024-1338, VAN-BYL-2024-1362, VAN-BYL-2024-1363, and the DNA profiles obtained from all previously sent findings related to the incident of the child Narin Güran being found dead are different and not included in the mixed DNA profiles. c. Since the samples studied in the expert reports numbered VAN-BYL-2024-1347, VAN-BYL-2024-1348 did not respond to DNA analysis studies, the requested comparison could not be made.
