In the Yüksekova district of Hakkari, even though only a few days remain until July, snow clearing teams continue their relentless road opening efforts in the challenging terrain. Struggling to advance through snow masses reaching up to 5 meters in places, the teams are effectively carving snow tunnels with their machinery to move forward.
Teams from the Hakkari Special Provincial Administration General Secretariat and the Yüksekova District Special Administration Construction Site Chiefdom are putting in intensive effort to open the road to the Sat Lakes in the İkiyaka Mountains, located 40 kilometers from the district center, where winter-like scenes persist even in these days when harsh winter conditions have receded.
SNOW TUNNELS EXCEEDING THE EXCAVATOR'S HEIGHT
During this period when air temperatures in western provinces are above seasonal norms, snow depths reaching up to 5 meters in some places are found in the high altitudes of Yüksekova.
Teams struggling to advance through snow masses that exceed the height of construction machinery are progressing by opening tunnels through the snow. In areas where the bucket is insufficient and the snow layer has hardened, excavators are brought in.
DAY AND NIGHT SHIFTS DESPITE AVALANCHE RISK
Snow-fighting teams, who occasionally face avalanche risk due to the region's steep and rugged terrain, continue their work day and night regardless. Working self-sacrificingly to ensure citizens and highlanders are not inconvenienced, the teams challenge all the difficulties nature presents.
STRUGGLE TO CONTINUE UNTIL THE END OF JULY
The snow-fighting teams stated that the snow volume in the region is quite high, and road opening and widening efforts at many points in Yüksekova will continue at full speed until the end of July.
