One of the eyewitnesses of the chain accident in Mersin, where 10 people lost their lives, said, "I heard the bus assistant say, 'We overtook a vehicle and lost control of the steering' after the accident. It was already evident from the shape of the bus. The bus directly turned and rolled over in this way. The passengers were thrown to the right side of the road. When it rolled over, it fell onto two moving vehicles."
The witness who witnessed the tragic accident in which 10 people lost their lives and 39 others were injured in Mersin, described the moments. The eyewitness said, "I heard the bus attendant say, 'We overtook a vehicle and lost control of the steering' after the accident. It was already clear from the shape of the bus."
CHAIN ACCIDENT LIKE A MASSACRE
The accident occurred in the evening hours at the Yenice Kütüklü location on the Mersin-Adana Highway in the Tarsus district. The passenger bus with the license plate number 34 SD 8821, coming from Adana, skidded in rainy weather, overturned and crossed to the opposite lane, causing a chain accident by colliding with three vehicles, including a car, a pickup truck, and a truck. Many police, gendarmerie, health, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the scene of the accident. According to initial determinations, 10 people lost their lives and 39 people were injured in the accident. The injured were transported to hospitals in Adana and Mersin by ambulances that arrived at the scene.
"I SAW THE BUS FLIP OVER"
Murat Şahin, 41, who witnessed the accident caused by the bus carrying 28 passengers and 4 crew members, described the moments. Şahin said, "We were going from Mersin to Adana, the weather was rainy. Suddenly, I saw the bus flipping over from the opposite side. My uncle was driving the vehicle anyway, I was a passenger. I heard the bus attendant say, 'We overtook a vehicle and lost control of the steering' after the accident. It was already clear from the shape of the bus."
"PASSENGERS WERE THROWN TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD"
The bus directly turned and came flipping over like this. The passengers were thrown to the right side of the road. When it flipped over, it fell on two vehicles in motion. We immediately intervened with the injured after the accident. Unfortunately, there were also small children. May God have mercy on them," he said.
IDENTITIES OF THE DECEASED HAVE BEEN DETERMINED
Meanwhile, the identities of the 10 people who died in the accident have been determined. It was learned that the deceased were Serhat Taraman, Elif Taraman, İpek Taraman, Ozan Kılıç, Birsen Çiftsüren, Sultan Acet, Taha Acet, Mehmet Kaplan, Halil Şimşek, and Ayla Çelik Teymen. It was reported that the body of Ayla Çelik Teymen was still at the hospital, Halil Şimşek's body was sent to Adana, and the bodies of the other 8 people were sent to Diyarbakır. The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
