The Şanlıurfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) against a woman who, in a video posted on social media, hurled insults at Şanlıurfa and its residents and used the phrase 'I want to burn this entire city down.' Efforts are ongoing to determine the residence of the suspect, who claims to be a teacher and has been identified as living abroad.
A video shared on social media and quickly spreading showed a woman claiming to be a teacher making harsh remarks about Şanlıurfa and its people, causing great public outrage. The woman, who alleged that gender discrimination exists in the city, hurled insults at the people of Şanlıurfa and the city's values with her statements.
"I WANT TO BURN THIS CITY COMPLETELY"
In the footage, the woman, who used the word "cursed" targeting especially the men of Şanlıurfa and their mothers, drew reactions with her words: "Urfa is not the City of Prophets, it is a cursed city. You have a slave mentality. You all have a rotten mentality, I want to burn this city completely. I hate it. They don't know what love for children or nature is."
AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN LAUNCHED
Upon the spread of the footage and the growing wave of reactions, the Şanlıurfa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated legal proceedings without delay. It was reported that an investigation was launched against the suspected woman for the crime of "inciting the public to hatred or hostility or degrading" under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK).
SHE WAS DETERMINED TO LIVE ABROAD
In the initial examinations conducted by judicial authorities and police forces, it was determined that the suspected woman who used derogatory expressions towards the people of Şanlıurfa lives abroad. It was learned that efforts to precisely determine the individual's current residential address are continuing uninterrupted.
