Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Berlin to attend the German-Ukrainian Economic Meeting and Peace Summit. However, the way Zelensky was received in Germany sparked controversy in terms of diplomatic protocol. A standard official welcoming ceremony typically held for a head of state was not organized for Zelensky upon his arrival in Berlin. It was notable that no senior officials from the German government were present at the airport.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Berlin for the Peace Summit and economic meeting; however, the reception fell short of the official protocol, drawing attention and sparking discussions in diplomatic circles.

NO STANDARD OFFICIAL RECEPTION WAS HELD

No standard official reception ceremony was organized for Zelensky upon his arrival in Berlin. It was notable that no high-ranking officials from the German government were present at the airport. Only two low-ranking officials were present for the reception.

THE FLIGHT COMMANDER TRIED TO SAVE THE SITUATION

The gap in protocol was attempted to be filled with an interesting moment. The official who first shook Zelensky's hand stepped back to introduce the Ukrainian leader to the plane's captain, after which the captain came down from the plane to greet Zelensky. Those moments quickly became a topic on social media.

As part of Zelensky's meetings in Berlin, he is expected to meet with the leaders of the United Kingdom and France, as well as participate in the Peace Summit with representatives from NATO and the European Union. It is stated that the summit will address topics such as the Ukraine-Russia war, military support, and the peace process.

A SIMILAR SITUATION OCCURRED IN IRELAND

Zelensky had previously made headlines for a similar non-protocol reception during his official visit to Dublin, the capital of Ireland. Whether such receptions carry diplomatic messages has become a topic of debate.
