Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay passed away last night at the hospital where she was receiving treatment. Tears flowed during the funeral ceremony held in front of the municipal service building for Durbay. Speaking at the ceremony, CHP leader Özel recounted the "story writing" dialogue they had when announcing Durbay as a candidate for the Şehzadeler district in the local elections of 2024.
A funeral ceremony was held in front of the municipal service building for Şehzadeler Mayor Gülşah Durbay, who passed away in the hospital where she was receiving treatment for cancer.
Durbay's body was taken from the morgue by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel and her relatives, and brought to the front of the municipal service building where she served, amid applause. During the ceremony held here, Durbay's biography was read. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel stated that it was a very difficult day, saying, "When you enter life, politics, especially in positions like ours, you take everything into account, but a person does not take this much into account. Just six months ago, we bid farewell to my brother, Ferdi Zeyrek, with tears in our eyes, just like Gülşah."
"WE WROTE A VERY PAINFUL STORY"
Özel recounted that Durbay took an active role in the party when she was only 21 years old, and shared the dialogue they had about "writing a story" when she was nominated as a candidate from Şehzadeler for the local elections in 2024:
"She said to me, 'This time we have a story. We will win the hometown of the chairman. This time we will write this story, my chairman.' I said, 'We can write another story. We will win a place like Şehzadeler with a woman.' 'We will write that story, my chairman,' she said. The other day, Lal (Denizli) called. Today, her father is telling the same thing in the funeral car. He told both of them, 'We wrote a very painful story.' This story writing phrase did not end, did not end, did not end, it ended here. It ended like this. May we all be strong."
"SHE WAS ALWAYS IN A HURRY IN OUR CITY"
Manisa Governor Vahdettin Özkan emphasized that it was a sad day for the city, stating, "She was always in a hurry as a good colleague in our city. Despite her illness, she was constantly thinking about how she could serve the citizens. She was working in coordination with all institutions. She really left a very good impression, a good impression."
Çeşme Mayor Lal Denizli expressed that Durbay was a close friend of hers, stating that her last words were, "We wrote a very painful story, didn't we?" CHP Deputy Chairman Gökçe Gökçen also made a speech.
After the speeches, the Quran was recited, prayers were made, and forgiveness was sought for Durbay. Durbay's body, wrapped in the Turkish flag, was taken to Hatuniye Mosque amid takbirs. The ceremony was attended by Durbay's family and relatives, as well as members of parliament, provincial and district mayors, city protocol, party members, and citizens.
