After the bird flu virus was detected in the carcass of a tiger that died at a zoo in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, the zoos in the cities of Lucknow and Kanpur were closed to visitors for a week.
A tiger that died on May 7 in the zoo located in the city of Gorakhpur, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was found to have the "H5N1" type of avian influenza virus.
ZOOS CLOSED
Arun Kumar Saxena, the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of Uttar Pradesh, stated that the zoos in the cities of Lucknow and Kanpur have been closed to visitors for a week to prevent the spread of the virus in zoos and poultry farms.
ANIMALS' SAFETY IS THE TOP PRIORITY
Saxena expressed that the safety of animals and birds in areas such as zoos and national parks is the top priority, urging all authorities to act in accordance with government guidelines.
THE SAME DECISION WAS MADE IN 2 OTHER CITIES
Yesterday, the zoos in the state's Gorakhpur and Etawah cities were also closed to visitors for a week.
