Nazlı Y.'s father, Mehmet Karaçalı, stated that his daughter became unrecognizable due to the last blows she received and that the heaviest punishment should be given to her husband who did this, saying, "She had been experiencing violence from her husband for 9 years. There were times we went to the police station three times and obtained a report of assault. Most recently, yesterday, in the heart of the city, very close to the courthouse, he attacked my daughter with a paving stone, saying, 'You will withdraw your statement.' Citizens were too scared to approach, my daughter became unrecognizable."
Karaçalı also said, "She has fractures in her skull, her nose is broken, her face is unrecognizable. I absolutely do not want my daughter to go. He is threatening her to drop the complaint, and the incident escalates from there. There is currently a risk that my daughter's eye may not see. My daughter is currently in surgery. We have filed a complaint, that monster of a man has been detained. He was already using psychological medication. My daughter also wants a divorce now; she has endured for 9 years only because she couldn't bear to leave her children. We want the heaviest punishment to be given."
