In a written statement made by the Democratic Local Governments of the DEM Party, a call for the release of Malazgirt Municipality Co-chairs Gülistan Özel and Ahmet Kenan Türker was made.
The statement noted: "The attacks that have occurred in Rojava in recent days have reached alarming levels for all our people. The fact that these attacks are carried out through the bodies of women has been a clear indication of a reactionary and dark mentality. During this process, the hanging of banners representing women's braids and the words JIN JIYAN AZADİ on our municipal buildings has also been one of our reactions.
"THEY MUST BE RELEASED"
In response to our democratic reactions, the unlawful attitudes of law enforcement and judicial mechanisms have once again come to light during this process. The detention of our Co-chairs of Malazgirt Municipality, Gülistan Özel and Ahmet Kenan Türker, on the grounds of the hung banners is unacceptable to us.
If a criminal is to be sought, attention should be directed to the structures committing crimes against humanity in Rojava. Therefore, our co-chairs who have expressed their democratic reactions must be released immediately, and unlawful practices must be put to an end."
