After the heavy rainfall that was effective in the Soma district of Manisa, the Bakırçay River overflowed, flooding the streets, avenues, and agricultural areas. While teams started working in the areas closed to traffic, students were evacuated as a precaution in an elementary school, and education was temporarily suspended.

Due to the intermittent heavy rainfall in Soma in recent days, the flow of the Bakırçay River increased and overflowed.

STREETS ARE UNDER WATER

After the flood, Santral Street and Yavuz Selim Avenue in the İstasyon neighborhood, where the river is located, were flooded. Some roads were closed to traffic, causing disruptions. Drivers were redirected to alternative routes. Upon the notification of the neighborhood residents, police, fire brigade, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area.

MEASURES TAKEN AGAINST FLOOD RISK

As a precaution against the flood risk, a security cordon was drawn by the teams, and it was learned that some fields and a livestock farm were also flooded.

STUDENTS WERE EVACUATED

The garden of Atatürk Elementary School on Temizel Street in the İstasyon neighborhood was also filled with water due to the flood. While students were evacuated as a precaution, it was reported that education was suspended for one day at the school.

REPAIR AND STRENGTHENING WORK HAS BEGUN

While the fire brigade teams affiliated with the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality and AFAD personnel continued their inspection and control work in the area, repair and strengthening work was initiated with construction machinery in the sections damaged and collapsed by the water. Authorities warned drivers and citizens to use the route carefully until the work is completed. It was reported that efforts are ongoing to make the flooded roads safe again in a short time.
