Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that action has been taken against the driver after a truck posed a danger to pedestrians at a crosswalk in Kütahya. Yerlikaya stated that they aim to establish a permanent traffic culture with the new traffic law.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that action was taken following footage of citizens attempting to cross at a pedestrian crossing, narrowly escaping being hit by a rapidly approaching truck, and that the truck driver who was caught has been processed.
PEDESTRIANS NARROWLY ESCAPED
According to the information shared by Minister Yerlikaya, in the incident, while the vehicle in the right lane yielded to pedestrians, the pedestrians narrowly escaped from the truck coming quickly from the left lane. The driver identified as C.A., who endangered traffic safety and violated pedestrian priority, was detected and caught by the teams. Necessary actions were taken against the driver.
"PENALTIES ARE TEMPORARY, TRAFFIC CULTURE IS PERMANENT"
Addressing the new Traffic Law proposal, Yerlikaya emphasized that their goal is not just to make drivers memorize traffic rules. He stated that their main aim is to create a lasting traffic culture and a sense of conscience in society that can distinguish right from wrong. In his statement, Yerlikaya said, "Traffic fines can temporarily stop risky behaviors, and inspections reduce the recurrence of these behaviors. However, traffic culture makes the correct behavior a personal truth. Penalties are temporary, but traffic culture is permanent. We want to build what is permanent."
