New security camera footage has emerged regarding the armed attack that took place during a hearing at the Bursa Courthouse two years ago. The footage shows Kemal Ergün, who carried out the attack, entering the courthouse with his paralyzed son Tolga Ergün and bypassing the X-Ray checkpoint to enter the building.
BLOODY ATTACK IN THE COURTROOM
The second hearing of the case related to the armed attack that occurred on September 23, 2023, at a shopping center in the Odunluk neighborhood of Nilüfer district turned bloody on December 13, 2024, at the Bursa 6th High Criminal Court.
Kemal Ergün, the father of Tolga Ergün, who was disabled in the previous incident, fired 7-8 shots at the detained defendants Mertcan Akça (26) and his father Köksal Akça (54) with a gun hidden in his son's wheelchair during the hearing.
While there was great panic in the courtroom, which had about 30 people, lawyers and press members tried to protect themselves by throwing themselves under the seats. Mertcan Akça and Köksal Akça, who were hit by the bullets, died at the scene.
ONE GENDARME MARTYRED
In the attack, Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Nurettin Yaşar and Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Uğur Bulut were also shot. The injured gendarmerie personnel were taken to the hospital, but Nurettin Yaşar could not be saved despite all interventions and was martyred.
10 PEOPLE DETAINED, 6 ARRESTED
After the incident, all security camera footage in the courthouse was examined. The teams from the Provincial Police Department's Public Order Branch detained 10 suspects, including Kemal Ergün and his relatives, as well as some public officials. The investigation revealed that the gun used in the attack had been converted from a blank-firing gun.
As part of the investigation, 7 suspects believed to have acted with Kemal Ergün and 2 public officials accused of negligence were brought to court. The court decided to arrest 6 suspects, including Kemal Ergün, while 4 suspects were released under judicial control.
AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE
In the verdict hearing held at the Bursa 2nd High Criminal Court, Kemal Ergün was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for his actions against the martyred Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Nurettin Yaşar, 19 years for his actions against Gendarmerie Specialist Sergeant Uğur Bulut, and two sentences of 23 years in prison for his actions against Mertcan Akça and Köksal Akça.
Other defendants were acquitted.
MOMENTS OF BYPASSING THE X-RAY DEVICE CAPTURED ON CAMERA
The newly emerged footage clearly shows Kemal Ergün bringing his paralyzed son to the courthouse in a wheelchair and entering the building without passing through the X-Ray device.
HE HID THE WEAPON IN THE WHEELCHAIR
Kemal Ergün confessed during his interrogation that he hid the gun in the toilet section of his son's wheelchair. He explained that he first placed a cloth and then a mattress protector to muffle the sound of the gun, stating that he entered the courthouse this way to carry out the attack.
FAMILY LAWYER REACTS
Tuncay İlçim, the lawyer of the deceased Akça family, reacted to the acquittal of the other defendants, stating that they would appeal the decision. İlçim said, "What needs to be questioned in this incident is how the weapon was brought into the courthouse and who turned a blind eye to it. We do not accept the acquittal decision given despite the concrete camera footage."
