Celal Tekin, the husband of former Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, stated in his testimony in the organized crime case that he met with Aziz İhsan Aktaş due to threats against his wife. Tekin noted that the payment should be made by the Municipality, while he expressed that he was not acting as a representative.

Aziz İhsan Aktaş, in the organized crime case, made a defense statement regarding the detained defendant Celal Tekin, the husband of Seyhan Mayor Oya Tekin, who was suspended from his position. Regarding the reason for meeting Aziz İhsan Aktaş, defendant Tekin said, "I met with Aziz İhsan Aktaş due to threats against my wife."

In the organized crime case of Aziz İhsan Aktaş, the defendants appeared before the judge. Previously, in his statement, Aziz İhsan Aktaş mentioned that on July 19, 2024, he met with Oya Tekin's husband Celal Tekin and CHP Adana Deputy Burhanettin Bulut in Ankara, stating, "They demanded 1 million dollars in exchange for the payment of my receivables. They stated that the payment of the receivables would not be made without receiving the money."

In response, I delivered a total of 1 million dollars withdrawn from three different branches in Ankara on the same day to Celal Tekin near Atılım University in Ankara İncek Kızılcaşar. Once the money was delivered, the municipality made a receivable payment of 75 million lira on the same day. The 1 million dollars delivered to Celal Tekin was shared between Burhanettin Bulut and Celal Tekin," he said.

THE WIFE OF THE FORMER MAYOR MADE A DEFENSE

Celal Tekin, the detained defendant and husband of Oya Tekin, stated in his defense, "I am a lawyer with 35 years of experience. My wife was elected mayor in 2024. Do I have a position in the municipality? No. I cannot even deal with municipal affairs due to time constraints. We have never interfered in each other's areas. The indictment states that I went to Ankara on my wife's orders. This is not true," he said.

"SOMEONE WOKE UP ONE MORNING AND DECIDED TO DO EVIL"

Expressing that he met Aziz İhsan Aktaş, Tekin said, "He stated that he had receivables from the municipality and that he could not collect them. Then he repeatedly called, insisting on his receivables. I constantly told him that Oya Hanım did not have personal debts and that the payment should be made from the municipality. He mentioned that he came to the municipality dozens of times, caused a scene when he could not meet, and that bad things would happen if the payment was not made. Seeing that this matter had taken a different dimension, I accepted the meeting proposal. It is my duty to protect my family.

Since I had other business, I was going to Ankara. I met with Aziz İhsan Aktaş at a place he designated. He told me that they could not receive payments and that their companies were on the verge of bankruptcy. I told him that his employee was constantly causing trouble and that he should prevent this and collect his legal receivables if he had any. Payment could not be made because there was no money in the municipality's treasury. Our evidence has not been collected. While the incident should be evaluated as a violation of rights committed against my wife and my reaction against this violation, these have been left out. Our arrest is unacceptable. Someone woke up one morning and decided to do evil," he stated.

EXPLAINED WHY HE MET AZIZ İHSAN AKTAŞ

In response to the question posed by the lawyers, "Would you meet someone who threatens you in a villa or in a crowded place?" defendant Tekin said, "I met with Aziz İhsan Aktaş due to threats against my wife. I do not know Ankara in detail. I went to the location he sent. I acted this way to protect my wife from the threat. I confronted Aziz İhsan Aktaş with my masculine feelings. If I were very scared, I would have reported it to the police," he said.

In response to the question from defendant Aziz İhsan Aktaş, "He said that I used intermediaries to meet with him; who are these intermediaries?" defendant Tekin replied, "When I could not reach my wife, politicians were put in between."
