Umut Yılmaz, the Mayor of Şehitkamil, who resigned from the CHP and joined the AK Party on August 14, first visited the AK Party Gaziantep Provincial Headquarters upon his return to the city. Yılmaz stated, "My cause is the cause of our President, who said, 'If they have a future, they will also have what they deserve,' when the tanks were pointed at his temple on July 15. He is not only the leader of Turkey but also the leader of the world."
On August 14, Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz, who joined the AK Party with a badge personally pinned by President Erdoğan, went straight to the AK Party Gaziantep Provincial Presidency as soon as he returned to the city.
During the visit, Yılmaz addressed the party members, saying, "Your role model is not only the leader of Turkey but also the leader of the world."

CHP HAD FILED A COMPLAINT
On the other hand, it was claimed that the investigation conducted regarding Şehitkamil Mayor Umut Yılmaz's transition to the AK Party was influential.
CHP Gaziantep Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen also filed a complaint against Yılmaz, who resigned from his party on April 8 and recently joined the AK Party, arguing that he should account for the alleged irregularities in the asphalt tender.
WHO IS UMUT YILMAZ?
Umut Yılmaz, born in 1981 in Gaziantep, started his education at Gaziantep Fırat College and received education there from primary to secondary school. He then continued his education in the Law department at Eastern Mediterranean University. He graduated successfully from university in 2004. After completing his internship, he worked in the enforcement department at Aksan Law Office in Istanbul and obtained his attorney's license. After completing his mandatory military service in the TRNC for a short period, he returned to Gaziantep.
Umut Yılmaz, who has been working as a freelance lawyer since 2004, has specialized in areas such as Family Law, Commercial Law, Intellectual and Industrial Property Law, Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law, Obligations Law, Compensation Law, Preparation and Negotiation of Contracts, and Corporate Law. He also acts as a trademark and patent attorney and speaks English. Yılmaz, who is also active in his political career, has served in various schools for ballot security duties in every election and has been involved in election law commissions of the CHP at the provincial level. He has held important positions such as the Gaziantep Şehitkamil District Presidency and served in this role between 2018-2020.
Additionally, Yılmaz is active in civil society organizations in Gaziantep and is a member of various organizations such as Gaziantep Idea Club, Gaziantep Club, and the Contemporary Life Support Association. A citizen of the TRNC, Umut Yılmaz also carries out duties assigned by the Gaziantep Cyprus Consulate. He was nominated as a candidate for Şehitkamil Mayor in the local elections held on March 31, 2024, and won. He is married and a father of two children.
