In Singapore, 62-year-old Bill Tan Keng Hwee was sentenced to 15 months in prison for sending pork to mosques. The court ruled that the defendant's actions targeting religious feelings threatened social order.
HE CARRIED OUT THE PLAN AFTER BEING FIRED
According to court documents, Tan was angered by the non-renewal of his contract at his workplace. Believing that a female employee was behind the decision, the defendant devised a revenge plan. It was stated that Tan placed pork slices and the woman's information in envelopes and sent them to different mosques.
HE INCLUDED A NOTE SAYING “HALAL PORK”
The defendant also added notes containing the phrase "halal babi chop" inside the envelopes. It was stated that he chose this method despite knowing that pork is a sensitive issue for Muslims. The envelopes were mailed to 7 different mosques on September 15, 2025. Mosque staff noticed the envelopes a few days later and informed the police.
STRONG MESSAGE FROM THE COURT
The prosecution argued that the defendant used religious values as a weapon. The court noted that the incident was "calculated, highly offensive and provocative." The judge emphasized that Singapore's religious and ethnic harmony forms the foundation of social order and stated that such actions must be met with a strict response.
