Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek's son Gökhan Böcek gave an additional 8-page statement last night. Claiming that a "Candidacy Bourse" was established at the CHP Headquarters, Böcek alleged that CHP's Veli Ağbaba, "under Özgür Özel's instructions," first demanded 30 million TL and then 1 million Euros from him for the candidacy process. Böcek claimed the money was delivered on the 6th floor of the CHP Headquarters, and also asserted that an additional 7-8 million TL was requested a second time during the election process.

Gökhan Böcek, the son of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek, made an active remorse application and gave a statement on May 2nd as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Last night, Gökhan Böcek gave an additional 8-page statement.

FROM “30 MILLION TL” TO “1 MILLION EURO”: CRITICAL NEGOTIATION

The additional statement submitted by Gökhan Böcek to the court revealed new details about the process of Muhittin Böcek being announced as the CHP's candidate for the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality mayoral election. The son, Böcek, stated that CHP member Veli Ağbaba contacted him via an internet-based application, said during the conversation that he was acting on “Özgür Özel’s instructions,” and requested 30 million TL be paid to the party for his father Muhittin Böcek’s candidacy.

Böcek stated that he informed Ağbaba of the situation, noting that the 30 million TL he collected from tradesmen and businesspeople in Antalya was equivalent to approximately over 900 thousand Euros at the exchange rate of that day. According to the claim, the negotiation escalated at this point, and Ağbaba demanded, “Complete it to 1 million Euros and bring it.”

While it was stated that this meeting took place in the first days of January 2024, Böcek said he relayed this request to his father and received the response, “Do what is necessary.”

“MONEY WAS COLLECTED FROM TRADESMEN, CONVERTED TO EUROS”

In his statement, Böcek explained that during the election process, some businesspeople and tradesmen in Antalya said they wanted to support him, which led him to start collecting money. He stated that the money was given in Euros and Dollars, but he specifically requested Euros because they were easier to transport.

He stated that the collected money was kept at home for a while, and when the TL equivalent of the requested amount was reached, it was prepared to be taken to Ankara.

BLACK BAG, X-RAY, AND SUSPICIOUS DELIVERY

The process of transporting and delivering the money drew attention in the statement. Böcek described putting approximately 1 million Euros, consisting of 100, 200, and 500 Euro banknotes, into a black bag, which he specifically chose to be cheap and inconspicuous.

Böcek stated that the bag contained only the money and an iPad, that he went through X-ray control at the airport, showed only the iPad to the officer, and that the money was carried in the same bag.

“YOU ARE EXPECTED ON THE 6TH FLOOR”

Böcek recounted that after arriving in Ankara, he went to the CHP Headquarters, claiming that there was no search at the entrance, no ID was asked, and no record was taken. He said he was told at the reception, “You are expected on the 6th floor,” where he was greeted by an official in a suit with a party badge.

“I BROUGHT 1 MILLION EUROS” PHONE CALL

According to Böcek’s statement, a phone call was made with Veli Ağbaba for confirmation before handing over the money. Böcek said the person answered the phone and spoke with Ağbaba, then handed the phone to him, where he saw the name on the screen and recognized the voice.

He claimed to have said, “I brought 1 million Euros, I will leave it with this person,” and received a “yes” in response. He then stated that he handed the money over to the person they directed him to. Böcek also mentioned that he never saw this person again, only remembers his appearance, and could identify him if necessary.

ALLEGATION OF SECOND MONEY DEMAND: 7-8 MILLION TL

The statement was not limited to this incident alone. Böcek claimed to have faced a second demand for money while the election process was ongoing. According to the allegation, during a meeting, it was stated that “there is a need for cash for election activities” and he was asked for support.

When Böcek asked how much was needed, he claimed to have received the response, “7-8 million TL in cash would be good,” that he relayed this to his father, and again received the answer, “Help out.”
