The Ministry of National Education announced that 30,000 personnel have started working for cleaning services in schools. Images taken in schools have drawn great reactions on social media platforms and some media outlets. The Ministry of National Education announced that 30,000 positions have been allocated for cleaning services in schools under the Community Benefit Program (TYP) and that this personnel has started working full-time as of today, thus increasing the number of cleaning staff in schools to 143,355.

THE NUMBER OF PERSONNEL HAS REACHED 143,355

In a written statement from the ministry, it was noted that there was a need to make a statement regarding 'cleaning services in schools', which has been on the agenda of written and visual media, especially social media platforms, in recent days. It was emphasized that the cleaning of 60,487 schools affiliated with the ministry and the supply of cleaning materials are carried out by the Ministry, stating, "Currently, there are 49,578 permanent cleaning staff employed in the execution of cleaning services in schools. In order to increase participation in employment, an additional 120,000 positions have been allocated for part-time cleaning staff under the 'Labor Force Adaptation Program (IUP)' initiated this year, but due to insufficient applications resulting from the fact that this program is being implemented for the first time this year, some problems related to delays have occurred. Currently, 63,777 personnel are working under the mentioned IUP program. As a precaution, as a result of our ministry's initiatives, an additional 30,000 positions have been allocated under the 'Community Benefit Program (TYP)', and this personnel has started working full-time as of today. As a result, in our 60,487 schools, there are currently a total of 143,355 cleaning personnel, including 49,578 permanent, 30,000 TYP, and 63,777 IUP personnel. On the other hand, the process of completing the 120,000 positions allocated to our ministry under the IUP framework is still ongoing. Thus, the number of cleaning personnel in our schools has been increased from 110,000 to 143,355 compared to previous years," it was stated.

"IT IS UNETHICAL TO MAKE A POLITICAL SHOW OUT OF THIS"

The statement also mentioned that the suitability of cleaning conditions in schools is examined by approximately 8,000 'School Clean Inspection Officers' authorized through training conducted by the Ministry of National Education and TSE, stating, "Protecting the health of our children, who are the guarantee of our future, is always among our primary goals and duties. As a ministry, we value working mutually within legal boundaries, especially with municipalities and public institutions. However, it is undoubtedly unethical to make this attitude a political show. Steps taken without any protocol and without necessary precautions are also wrong from the perspective of public law. It is clear that cleaning only 13 schools in a province with 2,217 schools for just one day and giving the impression that 'the cleaning of all schools in the province is done every day' is problematic in terms of minimum moral principles," it was stated.

"AN ATTEMPT IS BEING MADE TO CARRY OUT A PERCEPTION OPERATION"

It was noted that some municipalities acting in this manner have portrayed a 'cleaning problem in schools' across Turkey, stating:

"An attempt is being made to carry out a perception operation by sending cleaning personnel and materials to our schools in a manner contrary to procedures, even though there is no need or demand. By using the undesirable individual negative images in some of our educational institutions, which are home to more than 20 million students, teachers, and other staff, this attitude, which casts suspicion on all our schools and their administrations, is perceived by the public as 'a politically distant show and manipulation against the society they cannot serve'. It is out of the question for us to turn a blind eye to any political activity in our schools, which are places of knowledge and wisdom. Our educational institutions, which are responsible for raising 'free-minded, free-spirited' generations, are not places to be used as political material. It is the most fundamental civic duty for everyone to show maximum sensitivity in this regard."
