New details have emerged in the murder case that occurred in Itapema, South Brazil. 25-year-old Eduarda Gorgik and her 59-year-old boyfriend Sérgio Correa were found dead in their apartment.
Footage recorded by the apartment's security cameras reveals the last moments before the tragic event. According to the recordings, the couple entered their home. About an hour later, at 5:21 PM, Gorgik went out into the apartment corridor, hid two cell phones in the fire extinguisher box, and returned to her apartment.
Ícaro Malveira, the chief of the Santa Catarina Civil Police, stated, "No gunshots or sounds of a fight were heard from the couple's apartment, who attended a barbecue party held in the building's common area the previous day. The reason for hiding the phones is one of the key points of the investigation."
The bodies were discovered by an employee who became concerned when Correa did not answer his phone. To enter the locked apartment from the neighboring unit, the employee had to break the glass of the balcony door.
According to police officials, Correa has a history of domestic violence against another woman, but Gorgik had no complaints against her boyfriend.
"The phones cannot be examined at the moment because they are locked. The phones sent to the digital crime lab in Florianópolis may play a significant role in clarifying the motive of the incident," Malveira said.
Interviews with the family members of both victims are planned to take place today as part of the investigation. Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact cause of death.
