In 2024, vehicle owners who did not have their exhaust checked with the Exhaust Electronic Control System (EGEDES) were fined a total of 14 million 56 thousand 491 TL during 1,798 inspections.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change launched the EGEDES project in 2018 to reduce air pollution caused by transportation in 81 provinces. With EGEDES, the exhaust gas emission measurement processes of vehicles are conducted electronically.
The system developed with ASELSAN recognizes the vehicle's license plate, queries it, and reports whether there is a valid exhaust emission measurement along with the vehicle's image. With EGEDES, vehicles that have not undergone exhaust inspection are instantly detected without disrupting traffic flow.
1798 VEHICLES INSPECTED IN 2024
In 2024, during 1798 inspections, vehicle owners who did not have their vehicles inspected were fined 14 million 56 thousand 491 TL. The revenue generated from the fines is used for environmental protection and combating climate change. The developed Mobile License Plate Recognition System (MPTS) devices are being installed in the inspection vehicles of 81 provincial directorates. The inspection vehicles detect vehicles without exhaust emission measurements while stationary at the roadside or while in traffic. Private and official cars must undergo measurement at the end of the first 3 years and then every two years; commercial vehicles such as trucks, vans, buses, and taxis must have measurements done at the end of the first year and then annually.
