A 7.1 magnitude earthquake in the Tibet region of China.

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred in the city of Shigatse in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. According to information obtained from the China Earthquake Networks Center, the tremor was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers at 09:05 local time.

AT LEAST 9 PEOPLE HAVE DIED

Chinese media reported that the earthquake was felt strongly in the Dingri region and surrounding areas of Shigatse, and that many buildings collapsed, with initial reports indicating that at least 9 people have lost their lives.

FELT IN NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES AS WELL

While damage assessment work is ongoing, it has been reported that the tremor was also felt in Nepal and India.
