Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested and removed from his position as the Mayor of Beylikdüzü as part of a corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), is struggling with health issues, which has brought discussions about 'trial without detention' to the forefront.
ANOTHER SUPPORT FROM THE AK PARTY Recently, another member of the AK Party called for 'trial without detention' for Çalık, who has frequently been hospitalized due to health problems he experienced in prison and a previous battle with cancer.
Mehmet Murat Çalık AHMET METİN GENÇ: A FRIEND WE HAVE KNOWN SINCE CHILDHOOD After holding a press conference regarding the agenda, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç answered questions from the press, stating, "Mehmet Murat Çalık is our fellow citizen, from Maçka. He is a friend we have known since childhood. First of all, I send my wishes for recovery from here. There cannot be a person-specific application, but our president Mehmet Murat has also had a health issue at the age of 27, and thankfully he overcame it; now he is struggling with a similar health issue."
Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç "THE LAW'S CONSCIENCES MUST ALSO BE SATISFIED" Genç expressed that Çalık should be tried without detention and continued his remarks as follows: "Since his trial is ongoing, he should be tried without detention regarding the accusations against him. As a lawyer, I say this. I believe he should be tried without detention. The law's consciences must also be satisfied. The forensic medicine process should be expedited, and he should continue to be tried without detention, while on the other hand, he finds healing. I send our best wishes to our brother Mehmet Murat Çalık, our president."
FATIH MAYOR TURAN HAD ALSO SUPPORTED Recently, AK Party Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan also argued that a judicial control decision in the form of house arrest should be made for Çalık. Speaking at the municipal council meeting, Turan stated, "Our friend Mehmet Murat Çalık, our president, has a disease. Whether he is guilty or innocent, I personally am someone who loves our friend Mehmet Murat Çalık. I wish him urgent healing from God. My hope is that our sick friend is tried, if possible, with house arrest or whatever."
Fatih Mayor Ergün Turan FORENSIC MEDICINE WILL EVALUATE ÇALIK'S HEALTH STATUS AFTER THE PROCEDURES On the other hand, a statement was made by the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution regarding the health report prepared for Mehmet Murat Çalık by İzmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital. The statement indicated that the report was recorded completely and accurately, and there was no tampering.
The statement noted that Çalık was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in 1999, but the disease has not recurred for 26 years, and its symptoms have disappeared. Additionally, it was stated that there was no pathology report or treatment document related to this disease in the file sent to them by Forensic Medicine. Furthermore, it was emphasized that there was no evidence of a diagnosis of lymphoma in Çalık's file.
The Forensic Medicine Institution stated that the bone marrow biopsy performed in İzmir was insufficient for diagnosis, and therefore no definitive result could be obtained. It was noted that Çalık should be referred to a fully equipped hospital for more comprehensive examinations.
"A FINAL DECISION WILL BE MADE" In the statement regarding Çalık's general health status, it was mentioned that the bone marrow sample taken from Çalık was insufficient, and after a new bone marrow biopsy is taken, the health board report showing his condition after the examinations and procedures will be finalized.
