In the Kandıra district of Kocaeli, a 81-meter-long dry cargo ship registered under the Tanzanian flag was swept ashore and ran aground off the coast of Kefken due to adverse weather conditions. Due to strong winds and waves, it was impossible for the coast guard to intervene from the shore, so a helicopter was called to the area. Upon notification, the Coast Guard General Directorate, Coast Guard Command, Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), gendarmerie, and fire brigade teams were dispatched to the area.
7-PERSON CREW STRANDED
The Coast Guard teams initiated efforts to rescue the 7-member crew stranded on the ship. Due to strong winds and waves, intervention from the shore was not possible, and a helicopter was called to the area. Kandıra District Governor Ömer Lütfi Yaran also arrived in the area to conduct inspections and gather information from officials.
BREATHTAKING OPERATION
A breathtaking rescue operation was launched with a helicopter belonging to the Coast Guard Command. Efforts to rescue the crew on the ship are ongoing.
The ship, approximately 81 meters long and 10 meters wide, is registered under the Tanzanian flag and was reported to be en route to Ukraine's Chornomorsk Port.
