Turkey plans to establish a new ministry to create a stronger institutional structure against disasters. The newly formed Ministry of Disaster Management will incorporate municipal fire departments, accelerate legislative updates, and provide regular training for technical personnel.
Turkey has taken action to create a stronger institutional structure against disasters. Work has begun to establish a "Ministry of Disaster" in addition to the existing 17 ministries.
According to a report by Dünya Gazetesi, the new ministry will also incorporate the fire departments of municipalities, accelerate legislative updates, provide regular training for technical personnel, and establish logistics warehouses across the country. Additionally, building health will be monitored, disaster risk maps will be prepared, and national communication systems will be developed.
COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY WILL BE DEVELOPED
The Ministry of Disaster will prepare disaster resilience strategies not only for post-disaster intervention but also in areas such as industry, technology, R&D, agriculture, and tourism at both national and local levels. Risk analyses will be conducted for all settlements, and integrated early warning and forecasting systems will be established according to types of disaster hazards.
BUILDING HEALTH AND LOGISTICS CENTERS
Buildings with low earthquake resistance and critical types of structures will be regularly monitored. Building health monitoring systems will be widespread across the country. Additionally, logistics warehouses will be established for materials, equipment, and vehicles needed after a disaster.
MEETING AREAS WILL INCREASE
Among the ministry's priorities is increasing the number of meeting areas where citizens can be safely evacuated and transported during disasters and emergencies.
RECOVERY PLAN WILL BE PREPARED
A "Turkey Post-Disaster Recovery Plan" will be prepared to reorganize economic and social life after a disaster according to possible scenarios. Vulnerabilities in transportation infrastructure will also be identified, and investments will be made to increase resilience.
