In Rome, the capital of Italy, the historic tower known as Torre dei Conti, located near the Colosseum, collapsed during restoration work. One of the two workers, who were Romanian citizens, lost his life, while the other was seriously injured.

In the capital of Italy, Rome, an ancient tower located very close to the Colosseum has collapsed. The historic tower known as Torre dei Conti collapsed during restoration work, leading to a major disaster.

One of the workers in the area at the time of the incident was trapped under the rubble and lost his life, while another was seriously injured in the head. It was reported that both workers were Romanian citizens.

The tower collapsed in two phases in the morning. The first collapse occurred at 11:30. After the rescue teams arrived at the scene, a second partial collapse occurred around 12:45. Fortunately, no one was injured in the second collapse.

Firefighters made intense efforts to rescue the worker trapped under the rubble for hours. The worker, who was rescued after approximately 12 hours, was taken to the hospital, but unfortunately, he lost his life.

Local fire chief Lamberto Giannini stated, "The situation was quite risky because there was a possibility of the tower collapsing again. Nevertheless, our teams worked with great dedication."

Another worker, 67-year-old Ottaviano, who was inside at the time of the incident, managed to escape through a balcony without injury. "It wasn't safe there; I just want to go home," he said.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud noise at the moment of the collapse and saw a thick cloud of dust rising from the tower. Queen Paglinawan (27), who works at a nearby ice cream shop, recounted, "I heard two loud noises, then I saw the tower collapsing to the side."

German student Viktoria Braeu, who was at the scene, said, "We had just come out of the Colosseum; we were going to eat. When we looked at the tower, we said, 'It looks like it's going to collapse soon,' and a few seconds later, it really did."

The prosecutor's office has launched an investigation to determine whether there was any negligence in the incident.

The tower had been closed to visitors for a long time. Authorities stated that the rescue operations were being carried out carefully and that precautions were taken against the risk of a second collapse.
