The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, made a striking statement regarding Selahattin Demirtaş, for whom the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruled that he should be "released" and Turkey's request for reconsideration was rejected. Bahçeli stated, "The release of Selahattin Demirtaş will be a harbinger of good things."
The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, made important statements regarding the situation of Selahattin Demirtaş, whom the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) stated should be released.
In his statement during the group meeting, Bahçeli said that an attempt was being made to create a new provocation ground through PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is imprisoned in İmralı, and former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş, who is detained in Edirne Prison.
"THOSE WHO WANT TO CAUSE A PROBLEM BETWEEN ÖCALAN AND DEMİRTAŞ..."
In his statement, Bahçeli used the following expressions:
"We see the discomfort of those who lay mines between both Öcalan and Demirtaş, and we believe that no one will fall for this game. Efforts to provoke the process of a Turkey without terrorism are null and void for us. We know well where those who want to create problems between İmralı's Abdullah Öcalan and Edirne's Selahattin Demirtaş serve. İmralı has kept its word."
DEMİRTAŞ'S SITUATION WAS ASKED AT THE EXIT
After these statements, while leaving the Parliament, Bahçeli was asked about the situation of Selahattin Demirtaş, whom the ECHR stated should be released, and he said, "Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş has reached a conclusion through legal means. His release will be beneficial for Turkey."
ECHR REJECTED DEMİRTAŞ'S APPEAL
Selahattin Demirtaş has been detained in Edirne F-Type Prison since 2016. Most recently, the ECHR rejected Turkey's appeal for the re-evaluation of the release decision given for Selahattin Demirtaş.
FIRST COMMENT FROM DEMİRTAŞ AFTER THE DECISION
Former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş issued a statement following the ECHR decision. The statement made by Demirtaş in his own handwriting on his social media account is as follows: "Hello, the ECHR decision is certainly important and legally binding. However, not only from our perspective but also from the perspective of our 86 million citizens, the 'brotherhood law' among us is more valuable than anything else. The brotherhood law is strengthened by our social, economic, and legal efforts and steps to live together equally, freely, justly, and peacefully. Issues should be addressed not through concepts of winning, losing, hatred, and revenge, but through the concepts of a common future and common sense. Wishing that every step taken serves peace, tranquility, and prosperity, hoping to meet in free days, I send my greetings and love."
HIS LAWYERS FILED A RELEASE APPLICATION
After the ECHR rejected Turkey's appeal for the re-evaluation of the release decision given for Selahattin Demirtaş, a noteworthy development occurred. Demirtaş's lawyers filed a release application.
