The President of the Diyarbakır Jewelers and Goldsmiths Chamber (DİKO), Mehmet Yüksel, stated regarding the decision published in the Official Gazette about "cut gold," "Our citizens should be at ease about this matter; there is no problem. They can bring their cut gold to the jeweler to sell or exchange it whenever they want," he said.
DİKO President Mehmet Yüksel reminded that the sale of cut gold, which has become very common recently, sold by jewelers in 2, 5, 10, and 100 grams, has been banned, while stating that purchasing will continue. Yüksel emphasized that citizens should feel comfortable about this issue, saying, "There is no problem. They can bring their cut gold to the jeweler to sell or exchange it whenever they want. Citizens should be careful not to purchase cut gold from now on. There is a three-strand twist unique to Diyarbakır. It is a product that creates employment. They should prefer twisted bracelets as an investment tool. It is an investment tool, and there is no labor cost. Citizens can bring cut gold and exchange it for wire bracelets or the products we mentioned, and they can easily carry out transactions and exchanges. There is no labor cost involved in this either. These are products without labor costs. Citizens do not incur losses with these. This is our advice to our citizens. Our citizens should not panic. Only the production from now on has been banned," he said.
The amendment to the Decision No. 32 on the Protection of the Value of Turkish Currency was published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, announcing that jewelers will no longer be able to sell cut gold from now on.
