A UAV OUT OF CONTROL WAS SHOT DOWN BY F-16s IN ANKARA

The Ministry of National Defense announced that a drone that had gone out of control and entered Turkish airspace was shot down on December 15. In a statement from the ministry, it was said, "An air trace approaching our airspace from the Black Sea was detected and was monitored as part of routine procedures. In order to ensure the security of the airspace, our F-16s under NATO and National Control were given an alert reaction mission. It was determined that the air trace was a drone that had gone out of control; to prevent any adverse situation, it was shot down in a safe area outside of populated places."

In the media briefing on December 18, the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that the air defense system was not in a state of vulnerability. The ministry pointed out that the identification of the UAV in question was "difficult in terms of altitude, speed, and size." It was also noted that the parts of the UAV shot down by F-16s were spread over a wide area and that search efforts were ongoing.
