King Charles III of England and his wife, Queen Camilla, made an official visit to the Vatican and met with Pope Leo XIV. Charles and the Pope prayed together in the Sistine Chapel. This marked a historic first, as it was the first time in nearly 500 years that an English king and a pope prayed under the same roof.
HE WILL GIVE A SPECIAL WOODEN CHAIR AS A GIFT
Pope Leo XIV gifted King Charles a special wooden chair at the St. Paul Basilica in Rome. The chair, located behind the altar of the basilica, will only be used by British monarchs.
It will carry the king's coat of arms and the Latin phrase 'Ut unum sint' (That they may be one), which signifies a call for unity among Christians.
HE ALSO GAVE THE TITLE OF "ROYAL BROTHER"
Pope Leo also granted King Charles the title of 'Royal Brother'. A statement from Buckingham Palace indicated that King Charles conferred the title of 'Brother Priest' of St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and the title of 'Knight Grand Cross' to Pope Leo.
King Charles had previously met with the last three popes, but there had never been a ceremony where they prayed together.
