An unexpected blow came to Israel, which launched an attack on Iran alongside the United States, from its neighbor. Egypt announced the suspension of natural gas supplies from Israel due to military attacks in the region. The amount of natural gas whose flow has been halted is estimated to be 1.1 billion cubic meters, while the value of the agreement signed between the two countries last year was stated to be 35 billion dollars.
After the attacks by the US and Israel on Iran and Iran's retaliatory actions, the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum made a written statement regarding the local press reports that "natural gas supply from Israel has been halted."
1.1 BILLION CUBIC METERS OF NATURAL GAS SUPPLY HALTED
The statement noted that the recent military attacks and their repercussions, as well as the halting of natural gas supply coming from the Eastern Mediterranean via pipelines, are being closely monitored. The statement indicated that the ministry is working to increase LNG (liquefied natural gas) capacity throughout 2025 and diversify supply sources, assuring citizens that the ministry has alternative sources. The amount of natural gas whose flow has been halted is estimated to be 1.1 billion cubic meters.
THE VALUE OF THE AGREEMENT IS 35 BILLION
In a statement made by the energy company "NewMed," one of the partners of Leviathan, one of Israel's largest natural gas fields in the Mediterranean, on August 7, 2025, it was announced that a natural gas export agreement worth 35 billion dollars was signed with Egypt.
US AND ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON IRAN
While the negotiation process between Iran and the US continues, Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran in the early hours of the morning. The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced that they have initiated a "preventive attack" on Iran. US President Donald Trump also announced that they have launched a "major operation" against Iran. The attacks targeted the capital Tehran and the cities of Isfahan, Karaj, Qom, Tabriz, Shiraz, Bushehr, Kermanshah, and Ilam.
As Israel and Iran closed their airspace, a state of emergency was declared throughout Israel, and sirens were sounded. Warnings directing the public to shelters were made in Israel before Iran's counterattacks. The Iranian army announced that it has launched counterattacks against Israel with dozens of ballistic missiles and drones in response to the attacks by the US and Israel. Iran targeted simultaneous US bases in countries such as Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Jordan with missile attacks, while the US naval base in Bahrain was hit.
