In response to journalists' question, "Have you distanced yourself from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu? You hardly mention him anymore," Özel said, "In the past, the relationship we established with Kemal Bey was nothing more than expressing our loyalty, goodwill, and our wishes for his well-being to our previous chairman. In recent times, Kemal Bey has adopted a different line and he criticizes us. I always say this everywhere; 'the current chairman does not have the duty to protect and support the previous chairman. However, the current chairman has the duty to respect the previous chairmen and not to fall short in that respect.' I try not to fall short in that respect, that's why," he said.

In response to the journalist's remark, "But you are responding," Özel stated, "No, I am speaking very carefully. I mean to the words of Kemal Bey. Evaluating Özgür Özel's "normalization" policy, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, "Normalization, what is being normalized? The counterpart of normalization is abnormalization. I don't need to normalize with someone who is abnormal, right? What normalization will I do with the palace? The person says I will not implement the Constitutional Court's decision, what will you do?" he had stated.
