After a meal served following a Sunday service at a church in Nigeria, approximately 50 people were hospitalized due to suspected poisoning, and 5 of them have died. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

According to reports from local media, approximately 50 people suspected of being poisoned during a Sunday service at a church in Ibadan have been treated at the Infectious Diseases Center (IDC). It was reported that 5 of these individuals have lost their lives. Authorities stated that the deaths, the cause of which has not yet been definitively determined, occurred after the church served its traditional "Ipese" meal during special occasions. It was noted that institutions such as the church administration, police, the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the World Health Organization (WHO) are conducting investigations into the cause of the incident.

"LIKE THE VICTIMS, I ALSO ATE THESE MEALS AND NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME"

A source from the church expressed that the cause of the deaths has not yet been definitively determined, stating, "Like the victims, I also ate these meals and nothing happened to me. The incident is being investigated and it is not just related to 'Ipese' as some have suggested." It is also being investigated whether the deaths are related to an unknown disease. It was reported that dozens of individuals who were taken to the Infectious Diseases Center have been discharged after their treatments. The police of Oyo State, where the incident occurred, stated that they are continuing to investigate the cause of the deaths and are working closely with other institutions to determine the source of the incident.
